Client Focus: Sharmi’s Journey from Yoga to Lifting Heavy

When I first met Sharmi in February this year, she was already in great shape, being a qualified yoga instructor and keen walker. But, like many of my clients in their sixties, her experience with strength training was limited, and she came to me for more guidance. The idea of lifting heavy weights seemed daunting. Sharmi’s Progress: From Bodyweight to Barbell

When we started, Sharmi could only perform bodyweight squats and used a 12kg kettlebell for deadlifts. These are excellent starting points, especially for someone new to strength training. Over the months, as her confidence grew, so did her strength. Today, Sharmi is squatting over 30kg and deadlifting 40kg — a remarkable achievement for anyone, let alone someone who began with little gym experience.
